When I was a little kid, I used to watch my mother put a yoga tape into the VHS player. I would sit in awe as she practiced yoga following a man (who I found out later was Rodney Yee) teaching yoga in an extremely picturesque place. I became very entranced with this ritual that my mom would have, and watching it became one of my most cherished activities. Years later, my mom introduced me to bikram yoga in a dimly lit basement studio. It was within those four walls that I found something that I couldn’t describe yet: a sense of presence and unity of body, mind, and soul; which Ram Dass refers to famously as ‘Be Here Now’.

When Covid struck, a friend introduced me to vinyasa and here I found a new type of meditation; linking breath to movement. Yoga became a place of healing and self exploration for me during this time. I found that my most profound feelings of presence were within my moments of yoga. The tools that I learned within yoga of how to be present and how to be, are what have taught me the comfort of knowing that there will always be a now for me to exist in regardless of what is going on.

I am an installation artist, focusing on art as a social and political intervention in the lives of those who interact with it. Currently, my art practice is interested in spaces that people enter in order to have transformation. Yoga is a part of my art practice, it is a place where I find great transformation in my body, mind, and soul through the mind-body connection, being present, sitting with oneness of all things and building community. Which are all personal acts of protest in a world that cultivates isolation, individualism, and disconnection.

Yoga has shown itself as a vital part of my therapeutic practice for living. I have spent a lot of my life trying to leave my body or to change it. So, intentional practice of experiencing existing within my body and finding peace there has been important for my continued existence. Yoga has become a way of life for me. It is not only a practice of asanas, but it is how I interact with others, the principles I hold myself to and how I want to love and cherish the world and every being in it. Within yoga I have found a strong community of compassionate people who I am honored to know and share space with.

As a teacher, I will do my part to meet you where you are. Holding space for people to explore their mind and bodies in a safe and held way is for me the most important part of a yoga class. Whether you’re stepping onto your mat for the first time or deepening an established practice, my goal is to guide you toward a sense of presence, empowerment, and connection.
